Daydream Apple Intelligence Turns Photos Into Shopping
Daydream, an AI-powered fashion discovery app, launched two new features on Monday that let iPhone users turn saved outfit photos into shoppable results and search for clothing through Siri without opening the app. The update was built using Apple’s iOS 27 developer tools, which officially rolled out today.
To use either feature, you need an iPhone running iOS 27 with Siri AI enabled, along with the Daydream app installed. The app is free to download on iOS devices.
How the Camera Roll Shopping Works
The first feature uses Apple’s image-context capabilities, letting users shop from images already saved in their Photos app. Daydream analyzes the outfit in the image, identifies its individual pieces, and automatically surfaces shoppable matches and similar styles from a catalog of roughly 3 million products.
That means a screenshot of an outfit found on Instagram or Pinterest could become the starting point for a shopping search. Daydream breaks down the image into relevant items, such as a sweater, pants, shoes, or accessories, and matches them with products available through its collection.
If the exact item in the photo is still available, Daydream can match the image back to the retailer selling it. If it is no longer available, the app instead surfaces similar options.
The feature also handles requests for variations on what appears in an image. “I like this sweater but want it in red,” for example, is the kind of request Daydream can understand, Julie Bornstein, co-founder and CEO of Daydream, explained.
Matching Real Items to Real Retailers
The ability to trace an image back to a specific retailer sets this tool apart from basic visual search. When the exact piece is still in stock, users see the original product rather than an approximation.
When it is gone, the app fills the gap with close matches. That keeps the shopping experience useful even when trends move fast and inventory sells out.
Siri-Powered Search Without Opening the App
The second feature is a Siri-powered natural-language search function. Users can make requests by voice or text through Siri without having to open Daydream’s app.
A user could say, “Hey, Siri, search Daydream for a cool blazer for my board meeting on Monday,” and Daydream then provides results personalized to them.
Bornstein adds that the experience can be more tailored if users have set up Daydream’s “Style Passport,” which asks for details such as their sizes, preferred brands, personal style, and budget.
Why the Style Passport Matters
The Style Passport gives the app context that generic search tools lack. Sizes, favorite brands, and budget shape every result the user sees.
That personalization is what turns a simple query into a recommendation that actually fits. Without it, results are broader and less relevant to the shopper.
Standing Out in a Crowded AI Shopping Market
Daydream joins a growing number of AI shopping tools designed to rethink product discovery, including offerings from large companies and smaller players alike. Bornstein believes Daydream’s latest features offer something other tools cannot match.
“Most visual search tools don’t have the fashion category expertise, so they return results that don’t feel accurate, from brands that aren’t credible, or they link you to nonshoppable images,” she said.
That critique points to a common frustration: finding a photo of an outfit is easy, but buying it is not. Daydream aims to close that gap by focusing specifically on fashion rather than general product search.
A Step Toward a Shopping Agent
The launch fits into Daydream’s broader bet on AI-powered fashion shopping. The company sees these new features as more than stand-alone shopping tools. Its longer-term ambition is to build a shopping agent.
“This is one step toward the bigger vision, which is a shopping agent that understands someone’s style well enough to work across every surface in their life, not just on one surface,” Bornstein said. “Expect us to keep going deeper into on-device intelligence and further into the everyday moments where people are already discovering things they want.”
That vision places Daydream’s Apple Intelligence integration at the center of its roadmap, not at the edges. On-device processing keeps shopping tied to the moments when inspiration strikes.
Daydream’s Growth and Retail Partners
Daydream’s app launched last year and reports more than 1.5 million shoppers browsing products from more than 325 retailers and 10,000 brands. Its retail lineup includes Anthropologie, Dolce & Gabbana, Uniqlo, J.Crew, Reformation, Gucci, and Nordstrom.
That scale matters for a visual search tool. The larger the catalog, the better the odds that an uploaded image leads to a real, purchasable match.
With roughly 3 million products available, the app has enough depth to cover common categories like sweaters, pants, shoes, and accessories while still offering similar alternatives when an exact item sells out.
What You Need to Try It
Getting started requires a few basics. Users need an iPhone running iOS 27 with Siri AI enabled and the Daydream app installed from the App Store.
Once set up, both features work through the photos already on the device and through Siri commands. No separate account is required to browse, though the Style Passport improves personalization.
For shoppers who constantly save outfit inspiration, the combination of camera roll analysis and voice search removes several steps between spotting a look and buying it.
Daydream’s new tools show how Apple Intelligence can power practical shopping experiences. By combining image analysis with Siri-based search, the app turns saved photos and casual questions into shoppable results.
Whether the broader shopping agent vision arrives as planned remains to be seen. For now, Daydream Apple Intelligence gives iPhone users a faster path from inspiration to checkout.
