Prime Video Shopping is changing how viewers interact with what they watch. On Thursday, September 10, 2026, Amazon announced new features that let customers discover and buy products across thousands of Prime Video titles. The retail giant wants to remove the friction between watching something and owning it.
These updates build on last year’s launch of “Shop the Show,” a second-screen shopping experience available through the Amazon mobile shopping app. That feature let viewers find products tied to a given movie, show, or live sports event by typing “shop the show” into the Amazon Search app. It worked, but it was easy to miss. The new tools make product recommendations far more prominent.
How Prime Video Shopping Works Through X-Ray
The biggest change comes through Amazon’s existing X-Ray experience. Today, X-Ray displays real-time actor bios, character names, soundtrack music, and more. Soon, it will also help you shop.
Here is how Prime Video Shopping works through X-Ray:
Pause the video you are watching.
Press up on your Fire TV remote to launch X-Ray.
Visit the new Shop tab, which showcases products related to what you are watching.
Open the Amazon Shopping app to complete your purchase.
The app recognizes what is playing and drops you into a feed synced to that moment. From there, you can browse the products that caught your eye.
Shop the Scene Uses Amazon Lens
Amazon is also introducing “Shop the Scene,” powered by Amazon Lens visual search technology. This feature removes the need to type “shop the show” into a search bar.
Instead, simply open the Amazon Shopping app while watching a movie or show. You will be taken directly to that title’s storefront. Tap an image, and Amazon Lens identifies products inspired by the characters’ outfits, home decor, and other items appearing in the scene.
A Starting Point, Not a Perfect Match
Amazon is upfront about the limitations. Shop the Scene will not always find an exact match. Characters often wear clothing that Amazon or its sellers do not stock, including pieces from high-end brands or handmade costumes.
Even so, the feature gives viewers a jumping-off point for finding products that help them achieve a similar look. That alone could save shoppers hours of searching elsewhere.
Availability and Title Expansion
The Shop the Scene technology is live today on iOS and Android in the U.S. It works with more than 600 titles.
Meanwhile, the Shop the Show feature in Amazon’s app is expanding significantly. It is growing from 1,300 titles to more than 8,000 in the U.S. The expanded catalog includes Prime Originals, select licensed favorites, and live sports.
That is a massive jump in coverage. It means Prime Video Shopping will soon be relevant for a far wider range of content, from scripted series to live games.
Amazon Joins a Growing Trend
Amazon is not alone in blending shopping with streaming. Several services are working to integrate shopping suggestions into the viewing experience to create an additional revenue stream.
YouTube has long offered creators a merch shelf and shoppable connected TV ads.
Peacock added a Must ShopTV feature in 2023, letting viewers buy products that appeared in its content.
Roku offers a way to shop with its remote.
Disney has experimented with shoppable TV, including in streaming ads on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.
For Amazon, the advantage is its existing retail infrastructure. The company already knows how to sell products and ship them quickly. Connecting that engine to Prime Video content is a natural next step that few competitors can match.
What Prime Video Shopping Means for Viewers
For shoppers, these features could make impulse buying even easier. You no longer need to remember a jacket you saw in a show or search for it later. The store comes to you.
For Amazon, the play is about creating new revenue streams from its streaming investment. Product placements and shoppable moments give brands another way to reach viewers. It also gives Amazon another reason for Prime members to stay engaged with the platform.
There are questions worth considering. Will viewers embrace shopping while watching, or will it feel intrusive? Amazon’s approach keeps the shopping experience on a second screen for purchases, which may reduce the annoyance factor. The Shop tab in X-Ray is optional, so viewers who just want to watch can ignore it.
Whether viewers embrace Prime Video Shopping remains to be seen. But Amazon is betting that removing friction will make the difference.
Prime Video Shopping through the new X-Ray Shop tab and Shop the Scene feature makes it easier to buy what you see on screen. Shop the Scene is available now on iOS and Android in the U.S. with over 600 titles. Shop the Show is expanding to more than 8,000 titles. Together, they signal Amazon’s intent to turn streaming into a shopping channel.
For anyone who has ever watched a show and wanted the sofa, the jacket, or the lamp on screen, that moment is now much closer to reality.
