Snapchat Event Planning Arrives With Snapchat Plans
Snapchat has officially entered the event-planning space. On Thursday, the company announced Snapchat Plans, a suite of features designed for creating, sharing, and managing real-world events with friends.
The new Snapchat event planning tools let users send and receive invitations and track important details like time, location, and attendees — all in one place. According to Snapchat, these features can organize everything from birthday celebrations and sporting events to study sessions and weekend hangouts.
The move puts Snapchat in direct competition with Partiful, a popular event planning and digital invitation platform. Young users have increasingly turned to dedicated apps to organize get-togethers rather than relying on group chats or social media. Snapchat isn’t alone in this push, either. Apple launched an app called Invites last year that lets users create custom invitations for any occasion.
How Snapchat Plans Work
Creating an event — called a “Snapchat Plan” — is straightforward. Users add a title, choose a date and time, and invite up to 200 friends. Invitations are then delivered directly within a one-on-one chat with each invited friend.
Guests can RSVP with one of three options:
Going
Maybe
Can’t Go
The app is also adding a new “My Plans” section on user profiles. This lets people quickly browse all of their current, upcoming, and past Snapchat Plans. Additionally, when users click on a friend’s profile, they will see the events they share with that person.
Host and Guest Controls
Once a Snapchat Plan is created, hosts have several management tools at their disposal. They can:
See who’s attending
Invite more friends
Update event details as needed
Guests aren’t left out either. They can view the full guest list, change their RSVP at any time, and receive a reminder one hour before the event starts.
Snapchat says the plans are private and invite-only.
Why Snapchat Is Expanding Beyond Messaging
Snapchat has been a significant player in the social media space for over a decade. Now, the company is expanding its focus beyond how people communicate online to also help shape how they get together in the real world.
This follows a broader trend that sees Gen Z looking for more in-person connections. Rather than scrolling through feeds or getting lost in group chats, younger users are seeking ways to turn digital conversations into real-world meetups.
“No more missed get-togethers because of buried messages, lost details, or forgetting to create an invitation,” the company wrote in a blog post. “Snapchat Plans make it easier to organize these special in-person moments with your friends.”
Snapchat Event Planning vs. Partiful
Partiful has become a go-to platform for digital invitations and event planning, particularly among younger users. Its clean interface and social features have made it a popular choice for everything from casual hangouts to larger celebrations.
Snapchat’s entry into this space leverages its existing social graph. Since users already communicate with friends on the platform, adding event planning feels like a natural extension. The integration with one-on-one chats means invitations arrive where conversations already happen.
Apple’s Invites app, launched last year, represents another competitor. It allows users to create custom invitations for any occasion, showing that major tech companies see opportunity in how people organize gatherings.
What This Means for Users
For regular Snapchat users, the new features could simplify how they plan get-togethers. Instead of juggling multiple apps or losing details in group chats, everything lives within Snapchat.
The 200-friend invitation limit makes the feature suitable for intimate gatherings and medium-sized events. The RSVP system provides clarity on who’s actually coming. The one-hour reminder helps reduce no-shows.
For hosts, the ability to update event details and see the guest list in real time adds flexibility. Plans can evolve without requiring constant re-communication.
The “My Plans” section also creates a personal event history. Users can look back at past gatherings and see what’s coming up, all from their profile.
Snapchat’s move reflects a shift in how social platforms think about their role. Communication alone isn’t enough — helping users translate online connections into offline experiences is becoming a priority.
As Gen Z continues to value in-person connections, tools that reduce friction in planning will likely grow in importance. Snapchat event planning features position the platform to capture that demand.
Whether Snapchat Plans will successfully take on Partiful remains to be seen. But the company is clearly betting that integrating event planning into an existing messaging app offers convenience users will appreciate.
For now, Snapchat users can start creating plans, inviting friends, and managing their get-togethers — all without leaving the app.
